The club attendance has started the year well with over 20 juniors and 18 seniors
Our aim this year to increase the senior membership to 20 by the end of the year, so please bring along anyone that you feel would benefit from martial arts training
Training has been dominated by groundwork, grading preparation defence techniques and drills.
We are pleased to announce that over the next few weeks we have the benefit of experienced boxers training with us who are willing to share tips on improving punching power
We also hope to have access once again to the Full protective suit, as used by the police and armed forces, for full contact defence work and weapon training
Whilst we stress light contact when sparring we have invested in full protection head gear and we do have some body armour for those accidental blows
As you know we are now training in the gym on permanent basis. I am sure that you are appreciating the benefits in terms of noise levels and space.
The last club subscription that you paid covered the training period July, August and September and as such subs would normally be due again in October, to cover the remaining three months of the year.
However, we wish to re-align payment dates and therefore are now asking for the next payment now which will cover training until Feb 2008 (which effectively gives you two months free training!). We will request the next quarterly payment in Feb to cover March, April and May.
I am sure that you will agree that our fees have been very competitive when compared to other martial art clubs/sporting activities and our intention is to minimise increases as far as possible.
To keep things simple, the subscription fees will be spread equally into 4 payments throughout the year based on the total number of sessions in the year and won’t necessarily cover the same number of sessions per quarter (there is no facility to ‘pay as you go’).
This will be open to all Jikishin clubs in the area with competition categories of 1) open hand kata, 2) weapons kata, 3) random attacks 4) pairs demo and 5) ground work (N.B. no sparring this time). We have a strong record in competitions and would like to see this continue so give it a go!
At the adult grading on 3rd December 2006 at Courage Hall, Brentwood, Rob Friar and James Spurling successfully completed their Green belt and Suzanne Kinsella achieved her Purple grading - well done everyone !
Congratulations to Suzanne Kinsella who successfully completed her 'conversion' from her previous Jujitsu style on Sunday 4th December 2005. Suzanne performed very well in the grading and is now officially a Jikishin Blue belt - well done
On Thursday 8th December Rob Friar demonstrated good style and effort during his White belt grading. Everyone on the mat agreed he performed very well on the night and his pass was well deserved. Now for the Yellow belt!
Sunday 11th December saw Kyle Hargreaves attempt his Black belt (Shodan). Kyle had trained really hard for the grading and still was not sure who would be his training partner on the day. We are pleased to report that Kyle was successful and becomes the first pupil since the club's establishment at Billericay Sports Centre to start at White and go all the way through to Shodan. Many congratulations to Kyle.
